Village of Champion announces
‘pocket home’ subdivision
— Two-bedroom homes on full-serviced lots from the low $200,000s
The Village of Champion, (75 km northwest of Lethbridge and 150 km southeast of Calgary)
today announced a unique subdivision of small ‘pocket’ homes to meet the changing housing
needs of the community.
While still very new in Alberta, a ‘pocket’ neighbourhood is a planned community of smaller
residences around a common greenspace that promotes a close-knit community.
Champion’s new Spruce View Park development in the heart of the village will accommodate
five, two-bedroom houses on a one-third acre property with mature trees. The architecturally
controlled subdivision will offer five different housing choices — ranging from 1,107 sq. ft. to
1,164 sq. ft. — from a single builder.
Each house will include an individual parking pad (a garage can be built at anytime) and face a
common greenspace maintained by the Village of Champion.
The new houses, including lots, will be priced in the low $200,000s, making this development
— and Champion — very desirable.
“Champion is a gem of a community with many amenities so we decided to re-invent ways for
people to enjoy a small village,” says Champion Mayor Jamie Smith. “We anticipate these new
homes will also be very appealing to folks in Lethbridge and Calgary who want a getaway
property that is very affordable, easily accessible and extremely peaceful.”
The Village of Champion (pop. 300) is a debt-free, history-rich community at the junction of
Highway 23 and Highway 529. Champion is just 15 minutes from Little Bow Provincial Park, a
man-made reservoir noted for recreational boating and fishing.
